Minnesota SBIR WordPress Website Project
Since its inception, Minnesota SBIR (MNSBIR) has had a digital presence tucked within the Minnesota Technology Association’s website with which it was previously affiliated. In Fall of 2022, MNSBIR branched out into its own legal entity and thusly needed a standalone digital presence.
Previously a subsidy of a larger organization, MNSBIR came to junebird creative needing a dedicated website and a brand refresh. junebird creative worked with the organization to capture and restructure a healthy amount of existing content in a way that was simpler for the user to navigate and delivered more information with fewer clicks.
For this project, junebird creative did full website development including visual design in WordPress, and copywriting for the home page and some internal pages.
Updated branding.
The logo was updated slightly to modernize and apply new coloration.
Brand messaging.
When it comes to branding, the words on the page matter as much (or more, some may argue) as the visual design. This is why messaging is an essential component of any rebranding project.
As part of the StoryBrand messaging work, MNSBIR received a fully transcribed brand story, a one-liner intended to incite curiosity from users and draw them as heroes into the MNSBIR story. We also developed a tagline and other “punchline sentences” for use throughout the website.
Getting started in the federal research and development arena is complex process. MNSBIR provides outreach, education and coaching to help startups and small businesses navigate the federal R&D landscape to secure non-dilutive funding to research and commercialize their technologies into new products, services or processes.
Download library.
Using the WP Download Manager PRO plugin, we created a download library that organizes lots of dense, technical information in an easily digestible format. The library serves as a repository for housing formal program documents frequently referenced or requested.
One feature of the plugin is that it enables the administrator to easily replace a file without the front-end location (URL) changing. This is important since files in this industry change frequently and the URLs are often shared and bookmarked.
Advanced forms.
Using the versatile Gravity Forms plugin, a number of forms were developed that not only unified the user experience but simplified the event administration bringing most types of submissions into a similar flow within the website.
Forms and functionality include:
- Email Sign-up with MailChimp integration to automate adding users to email lists and avoid manual uploads
- Accelerator Application to allow SBIR/STTR eligible applicants to register for program assistance
- Event Registration as an alternative to EventBrite to allow admins more flexibility in registration and give users a more branded experience.
